Initial Setup Guides

The Initial Setup of a new device is a very important step that should be finished prior to allowing youth access to the Securebook. World Possible recognizes the desire to deploy these devices out of the box so we have made the Initial Setup process as quick and painless an experience as possible with a program we call Admin Tools which is run from a USB plugged into the Securebook. Below are the guides for Creating the Admin Tools USB and Using the Admin Tools USB, as well as steps to resetting the device should you ever need to do that.

Create Admin Tools USB

The instructions below detail the process of creating the EOS Admin Tools USB.

Requirements:

  • USB Device

To accomplish this process, please follow these steps:

  1. Plug a USB device into your computer

  2. Clear all content from the device

  3. Right click the device and select the "Format..." option

  4. In the File System section, choose exFat from the drop down list options

  5. Rename the Volume Label to "admin_tools"

  6. Select the Start button

  7. Click "OK" on the prompt that pops up.

  8. Open a Web Browser and download this file: admin_tools.zip

  9. Save the file to the admin_tools USB

  10. Right click the eos-admin-tools-NY.zip file and select "Extract Here"

  11. Once the files have been extracted (you can tell cause there will be a new eos-admin-tools-NY file without the .zip extension) delete the eos-admin-tools-NY.zip file

  12. Eject the admin_tools USB device

Using Admin Tools USB

The instructions below detail the process of using the EOS Admin Tools.

Requirements:

  • Admin Tools USB Device

  • Securebook

  • Black (USB) Docking Station

To accomplish this process, please follow these steps:

  1. Dock the Securebook to the Black (USB) Docking Station

  2. Plug in the admin_tools USB to the Docking Station

  3. Power on the Securebook and log into the Jadmin account

  4. Open the Documents Explorer

  5. Navigate to the admin_tools USB

  6. Click the Desktop and Type "terminal" into the searchbar

  7. Open the Terminal applicaiton and move it to the right side of the screen away from the Document Explorer

  8. Click on the Document Explorer and open the eos-admin-tools-NY folder

  9. Drag and Drop the admin-tools file from the Document Explorer to the Terminal Window

  10. Click on the Terminal Window to make it the main window

  11. Hit the Enter key to run the admin_tools program

  12. From the admin_tools menu, choose the option or options that you need to run

Create Reset USB

Sometimes completely resetting a device is a necessary action (Maybe the youth that was using the Securebook has been released, or maybe you've locked yourself out of the jadmin account by accident), in these situations you will need to use a Reset USB to overwrite the old image with a fresh one. This process completely resets the Securebook so it is also necessary to run the Admin Tools first setup script before allowing youth to access the device. To re-image a Securebook using a Justice Reset USB, follow this tutorial: Create Reset USB

Add Custom Content

A common question we receive is how to add custom content to the Securebooks, in this video I will go over two techniques: one without a RACHEL Device that uses the Black (USB) Docking Station and a USB, and one with a RACHEL Device using a module called TurnItIn! using the Red (WiFi) Docking Station.

Kolibri Guides

An amazing Learning Management System known as Kolibri can also be used to share content with youth through custom courses created by treatment staff or teachers. Below is a guide video for creating a Kolibri channel as well as how to import the published channel to the Securebooks for students to access.

Important Notes

These are some general Tips that we give each facility during trainings:

  1. Always run the Initial Setup Process before allowing youth to access the Securebooks. This process:

    • Changes the system date/time

    • Changes the default jadmin password

    • Locks down the Student Profile

  2. Never give out the jadmin password

  3. Securebooks should be assigned on a 1:1 ratio with students

  4. Securebooks should be powered off when charged

  5. Fully charged Securebooks should not be left on the charger

  6. Youth using a Securebook on a Docking Station (red or black) should be constantly supervised

  7. When the youth assigned to the Securebook leaves, the Securebooks should be reset with a fresh image
